WATERBURY – William J. Hopkins Jr. age 63, passed away on Sunday June 4, 2023, surrounded by the love and comfort of his family at the Vitas Unit of St Mary’s Hospital.
Bill was born on March 4, 1960, in Waterbury, the son of the late William J. Sr and Nancy (Russell) Hopkins. He was educated in local schools and was employed his entire life in the construction trade. Bill loved animals, mountains and his family. His favorite trips were to Nashville and Lake Placid, NY. His life was a blessing, his memory a treasure, he was loved beyond words and will be missed beyond measure.
Left to honor his legacy and cherish his memory, are his sister, Diane Yarosis of Youngsville, NC, his granddaughter, Jaylynn Hopkins of Seymour, his longtime companion, Marlene Hill, his Aunt and Uncle; Jack and Barbara Hamel, and nephews, Peter Yarosis of Lake Placid, NY, and David Yarosis of Tampa, FL. He was predeceased by his parents, his sisters, Kim Hopkins and Suzanne Hopkins and his son, Joseph Hopkins.
His family would like to send their heartfelt thanks and appreciation to Dr. Victor Chang at the Leever Regional Cancer Center, the Team at Vitas and Michael from Compassus Home Care. If it were not for Bill’s cousins, Steve and Jill Sweeney, his last years would not have been as satisfying and productive as they were.
Funeral services for Mr. Hopkins will be held on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at 9:30 a.m. from Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 1987 East Main St., Waterbury, to the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception, to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family. Relatives and friends may visit with Bill’s family on Thursday morning from 8:30 until the procession leaves for church at 9:30 a.m. To honor Bill’s memory, contribution to an animal charity of the donor’s choice or the ASPCA would be appreciated by the family.
