.MURRELLS INLET SC - William J. Mellon, III age 68 of Murrells Inlet, SC formerly of Oakville, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 09, 2017 at his home surrounded by the love and comfort of his family. He was the husband of Ruth M. (Belletti) Mellon
William was born July 29, 1948 in Waterbury, CT, son of late William J. Mellon, II and Sylvia (Ouellette) Mellon of Oakville. William was a member of Elks Lodge #2797 in Murrells Inlet. He proudly served his country with the US Army during the Vietnam era and spent thirty years as a Waterbury Police officer before retiring to the Myrtle Beach area. After his retirement, he spent ten years working security at Wells Fargo in SC. There are many things he loved, some of these included riding his Harley, going to the beach and working on cars. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, son and brother who will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
Besides his mother Sylvia and his loving wife of 43 years, Ruth, William is survived by his children, Katherine Mahoney and her husband, Steven Sr, and William J. Mellon IV all of Waterbury, his grandchildren, Steven, Michael, Jessica and Lauren Mahoney; and his brother, Donald Mellon and his wife. Colleen of Daleville, AL, Michael Mariano, husband of his late sister, Sharon, in addition to several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services for Mr. Mellon will be held on Thursday, May 18, 2017 at 10:30 am from the O'Neill Funeral Home, 742 Main St Oakville, CT 06779 to Saint Mary Magdalen Church Buckingham St Oakville to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00am. Full military honors will be accorded to Mr. Mellon, immediately follow the funeral service outside the church. Relatives and friends may visit with William's family at the funeral home on Thursday from 9:00 am until 10:30 am.
