Beloved Husband Father and grandfather
WATERBURY– William “Bill” A. Smith Sr, age 70 of Waterbury, passed away unexpectedly Friday, November 3rd 2023, at the Vitas Innovative Care Unit at Saint Mary’s Hospital surrounded by the love and comfort of his family after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Faye (Coon) Smith.
Bill was born July 13, 1953, in Waterbury, CT, the son of the late Daniel J. and Margaret (Burke) Smith. He attended Saints Peter and Paul Grammar School and was an alumnus of the first graduating class of Holy Cross High School. He received his associate's degree in accounting from Mattatuck Community College and an additional associate’s degree in computer science from Waterbury State Technical School. Bill was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will be remembered for his unique personality as a teller of tales. He was always telling jokes or sharing a funny story. He was an lifelong fan of the Cleveland Browns and Clevland Indians. Bill enjoyed spending time outdoors camping and was an avid darts player participating in several tournaments and leagues in the Waterbury area. Bill was a member of the Waterbury Franco-American club. Bill will be loved and missed beyond measure.
Left to honor his legacy and cherish his memory, besides his wife of 49 years, Faye are his children; William A. Smith Jr and his wife, Patricia of Harwinton, CT, and Colleen Mucci and her husband, Matthew of Marlboro, MA. He also leaves his brother, Michael Smith, sisters; Maureen Motherway, Kathleen Smith, and Carol Kaye in addition to his grandchildren; Liam and Jace Smith and Meredith and Margaret Mucci as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings; Elizabeth Rendino, Daniel J. Smith Jr, Stephen Smith, and Timothy Smith.
Funeral services for Mr. Smith will be held on Saturday, November 18th 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at St Leo the Great Church Bentwood Ave Waterbury, CT There are no calling hours and burial will be held privately at the convenience of his family. In lieu of flowers, donations to the American Cancer Society in Bill's name can be made at donate.cancer.org.
