OAKVILLE - Willis C. Fairchild Jr. age 87 of Oakville, passed away on Saturday March 5, 2016 after an extended illness. He was the husband of Dorothy (Calo) Fairchild.
Willis was born on April 6, 1928 in his home in Naugatuck, the son of the late Willis C. Fairchild Sr. and the late Mildred (Post) Taylor. He was raised on the family farm in Naugatuck, part of which is currently Fairchild Park. He resided in Naugatuck, Waterbury and most recently in Oakville. He was employed at Anaconda American Brass where he held several positions until his retirement. He was enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a parishioner of St. Patrick's Church in Waterbury, a longtime member of the Watertown Grange and a member of the Bethlehem Grange. He was an avid NY Mets and NY Giants fan. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially the many trips to Maine and the winter months in Florida.
Besides his devoted wife, Dorothy of 59 years, Willis leaves his children; Diane Fuller and her husband Peter of Thomaston, Patricia Haenig and David Stocking of Oakville, Marilyn Waldron and her husband, Thomas of Oakville and Glenn Fairchild and his wife, Joanne of Palm Coast FL, his grandchildren; Sarah, Jessica, Justin, Raymond, Stacy, Gregory, Jason, and Anthony and great grandchildren; Ace, Hunter, Isaiah, Ezra and Mathias, uncle to many nieces and nephews, cousins and friends. He also leaves his brother, Frederick Fairchild and his wife, Sharon of Watertown, sister, Erma Honegger and her husband, William of Middlebury, brothers-in-law, Ralph Calo and his wife, Barbara of Florida and Francis Calo and his wife, Lisa of Wolcott, also his step sister Virginia Howick and her husband Jim of Florida. Willis was predeceased by his brothers, Robert, George and Donald, his son-in-law, Gregory Haenig, nephew, Ryan Fairchild and his step sister Loretta and her husband Joe. The family would like to acknowledge and thank Willis' dedicated physicians and the compassionate staff at Paradigm of Prospect for the care they provided to him during his illness.
Relatives and friends may visit with Willis' family on Friday morning, March 11, 2016, from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at O'Neill Funeral Home, 742 Main St., Oakville. The funeral procession will depart at 10:30 a.m. to St. Patrick's Church, 50 Charles St., Waterbury to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. Burial will follow at St. James Cemetery, Naugatuck.
