Oakville - Yolanda C. Di Nunzio, age 77, of Di Nunzio Rd., passed away peacefully at her home with her husband by her side after an extended illness on Saturday, November 3, 2012. She was the wife of Filomeno Di Nunzio.
Yolanda was born January 22, 1935 in Villa Guillermoina Argentina, the daughter of the late Maximo and Josefina (Torres) Carballo. In 1957 she emigrated to the United States with her husband and took residence in Oakville where she has lived for the past 55 years.
Yolanda was educated in Argentina and was fluent in Spanish, Italian, and English. An accomplished seamstress, she enjoyed sewing and arts and craft projects as well as traveling with her husband to Argentina and Italy. Her love of growing flowers and vegetables was instrumental in her starting the business Di Nunzio Greenhouse. She always was available to help new comers who visited the greenhouse offering her experience and expert advice to anyone who needed it. She worked for forty years prior to being diagnosed with onset Alzheimer's which prevented her from participating in the Greenhouses 50th anniversary.
Besides her husband of 59 years, Yolanda is survived by her a son, Domenic Di Nunzio and his wife Lisa of Bethlehem, her daughter, Phillis Di Nunzio of MA, and her son-in-law George Tavares, a brother Carlos Carballo of Argentina and her five grandchildren Domenic, Michael-Angelo, Isabella, Monica, and Jennifer. She is pre-deceased by her two sisters Maria Ambinder and Juana Carballo.
Funeral Service for Mrs. Di Nunzio will be held on Wednesday November 7 at 8:00 a.m. from the O'Neill Funeral Home, 742 Main Street, Oakville, CT 06779. To Saint Mary Magdalen Church to Celebrate the Liturgy of Christian Burial a 9:00am. Rites of Committal and Burial will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery Watertown. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday evening from 5 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers and in appreciation for the wonderful care provided to Yolanda, memorial donations in her memory may be made to the VNA Hospice Hope Team 50 Brookside Rd Waterbury, CT 06708.
