BETHLEHEM – Yolanda Mary (Petto) Zarrella age 95 passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home, surrounded by the family she loved and cared for her entire life, on Sunday December 3, 2023. She was the devoted wife of Salvatore Zarrella.
Mrs. Zarrella was born on May 17, 1928 in Waterbury CT the daughter of the late John and Amelia (Roberto) Petto. She was educated in local schools and moved from Waterbury to Bethlehem to raise her family. Before the move she worked at Eyelet Specialty where she met the love of her life, Salvatore, After their move she worked at both Region 14 and Bethlehem Elementary School in the cafeteria. She was an avid baker and loved to prepare meals for her family and she was renowned for her meatballs. Yolanda was exceptional in almost every way, but she excelled the most at being a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She lived for her family and enjoyed a very strong bond and relationship with each of her grandchildren. She was a devout catholic and a stellar example of grace and class.
She instilled in her children a strong work ethic and the importance of family. Our family thanks you Mom, for every prayer you uttered for us, for the many sacrifices you made for us, for thousands of hugs you shared with us and the unending love you instilled in all of us.
Left to honor her legacy and treasure her memory, besides her husband of 71 years, are her children; Dennis and his wife, Diane of Vero Beach FL, Gerald and his wife, Barbara of Ocean City NJ, John and his wife, MaryAnn of Torrington, Teresa Le and her husband, Trung of Bethlehem, Susan Barker and her husband, Douglas of Watertown and Mark and his wife, Michelle of Morris. Her grandchildren with whom she had a very special relationship; Christine, Scott, Catie, Lauren, Nicholas, Matthew, Joseph, Mark, Jenna, Michael, Alyssa, John, Emily, Kelly, Ryan, Michelle and Eric and 8 great grandchildren. Funeral Services for Mrs. Zarrella will be held on Thursday December 7, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. when a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Prince of Peace Parish, Church of the Nativity 48 East St. Bethlehem. Those planning to attend are asked to meet directly at the church. Burial will follow in Mt Olivet Cemetery, Watertown. Relatives and friends may visit with the Zarrella family on Wednesday evening from 4:00 until 7:00 p.m. at Casey’s Eastside Memorial Funeral Home and Cremation Care, 1987 East Main St @ Southmayd Rd., Waterbury.
